The Kebbi State Government has commenced work on the revitalization of the Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital in Birnin Kebbi, a move aimed at enhancing quality healthcare services in the state. The hospital, one of the oldest in Kebbi State, is undergoing a facelift as part of the incumbent administration's improvement of healthcare services program under the leadership of Governor Nasir Idris.

The Permanent Secretary of Sir Yahaya Hospital, who is also the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Shehu KoKo, took journalists on a tour of the hospital's facilities, showcasing the new maternity unit that has been relocated to a more spacious building. "Our maternity unit is a referral maternity which caters for pregnant women, including those with complications, from all parts of Kebbi, and also offers surgical services," Dr. KoKo explained.

The old maternity unit, known as 'Fati Lami', had become inadequate due to limited bed space and movement constraints for patients and staff. However, the management has relocated all pregnant women and those who have given birth to the new facility, which is better equipped and has double the capacity of the old unit. "The new edifice is spacious, with enough beds and an operating theater for cesarean sections," Dr. KoKo said.

The revitalization scheme is part of the state government's efforts to improve the health sector, in line with Governor Nasir Idris' policy focus. "The Governor has directed the Ministry of Health and Hospitals to ensure the attainment of the target objective of enhancing quality healthcare delivery system in Kebbi," Dr. KoKo stated.

The Director of Medical Services in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Jibrin Gwandu, accompanied the Chief Medical Director on the facility tour, underscoring the government's commitment to improving healthcare services in the state.

The Kebbi State Government plans to revitalize five other hospitals across the four Emirates in the state, further demonstrating its dedication to enhancing healthcare services for the people of Kebbi.
