WRAPA Empowers 15 Widows in Kebbi with N100,000 Each

The Women's Right Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA) has empowered 15 widows in Kebbi State with cheques of N100,000 each to cater for their rent or repair their dilapidated residences inherited from their late husbands.

The project, supported by Modern Shelter, aims to assist women who have been left with the problem of dilapidated houses or rented accommodations after the demise of their husbands. According to WRAPA, the project is part of their mandated role in protecting women's rights and needs, and offering assistance to put smiles on their faces.

In his speech, Comrade Nasir Idris, WRAPA boss, highlighted the overview of the Widows Shelter project concept, stating that part of WRAPA's responsibility is to assist widows in the society by salvaging or finding solutions to their house rent issues.

"We are empowering each beneficiary with the sum of N100,000 cheques to enable you to cater for your rent or do minor repairs of the houses you inherited from your late husbands," Comrade Idris said.

The 15 beneficiaries were selected through an NGO called Mar'atulsalliha, which deals with women's issues, particularly widows. WRAPA conducted a thorough inspection and vetting process to ensure that the needy ones were the beneficiaries.

WRAPA boss implored well-to-do individuals to assist these widows in the area of house rent, sponsor the enrollment of their children in school, or provide food items to the needy ones.

The ubandoman Gwandu, Alhaji Sadiq Ibrahim, expressed his joy over the donation to his people and warned the beneficiaries to ensure total compliance with the donation offered to them, advising them not to misuse the money.

Other speakers at the occasion, including the Mar'atulsalliha representative, WRAPA state coordinator, stakeholders, WRAPA partners, host community leaders, and modern shelter representative, offered goodwill messages, welcome addresses, and closing remarks. They all agreed that widows need to be supported and believed that there is a need for individuals, stakeholders, and government to do more in assisting widows.
