National Qur'an Recitation Competition: Kebbi Hosts 39th Edition

The 39th edition of the National Qur'an Recitation Competition kicked off in Birnin Kebbi, the capital of Kebbi State, on Friday. The ceremony, attended by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar, the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai, and other traditional rulers, was declared open by Governor Nasir Idris . The governor expressed his gratitude for being chosen to host the competition, citing it as a rare privilege, 20 years after Kebbi last hosted a similar event.

Governor Nasir Idris urged Muslims to imbibe and reflect the teachings of the Glorious Qur'an in their public and private lives. He thanked the Sultan for the privilege and acknowledged the importance of the Qur'an in guiding Muslims' actions . The competition, which will run from December 19 to 27, aims to promote Islamic knowledge and values among Muslims.

The Vice Chancellor of Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto, Professor Bashir Garba, commended Governor Nasir Idris for providing necessary support for the event's success. Professor Garba emphasized the significance of reconnecting with the Qur'an and living by its teachings. He also highlighted the contributions of Mallam ABDULLAHI FODIO, founder of Gwandu Emirate, who wrote a book on various Qur'an recitation modes and Tajwid.

Professor Aliyu Muhammad Bunza delivered a lecture on the Glorious Qur'an, stressing the obligation on Muslims to abide by its commandments. The Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai, advised Muslims to uphold the virtues embedded in the Qur'an, promoting peace, progress, and prosperity. He expressed appreciation to the Kebbi Governor, Sultan of Sokoto, and Usmanu Danfodio University authorities for making the event a success.
