Kebbi Governor Passes APC Gubernatorial Screening for Second Term Bid

Birnin Kebbi, Nigeria, May 9, 2026(Series News Online)-Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, has successfully passed the All Progressives Congress, APC, gubernatorial screening exercise for his second term bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.  

The screening was conducted on Friday at the Plateau State Liaison Office in Abuja by the APC Screening Committee for Sitting Governors, chaired by the party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda. The process was described as peaceful and hitch-free.  
Prof. Yilwatda, who also chairs the committee, confirmed that Governor Idris met all the party’s requirements and constitutional provisions to contest for a second term. “Having met the requirement of the party and the provisions of the law, you have been successfully screened and qualified to contest for second term in office,” he said.  

He explained that the committee is responsible for screening sitting governors seeking re-election or those aspiring to contest senatorial seats. The APC National Secretary, Sen. Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, Ph.D, serves as secretary of the committee, with other members drawn from the National Working Committee, NWC.  
Responding, Governor Idris expressed appreciation to the APC national leadership for endorsing him as the party’s flag bearer for the 2027 elections. He also thanked the people of Kebbi State for their continued support and confidence in his administration.  

The governor assured residents that his second term would bring more developmental projects across all sectors. “I pledge to sustain and expand the good works my administration has already initiated for the benefit of the people of Kebbi and Nigeria at large,” he said.  
Governor Idris was accompanied to the screening by the state APC leadership led by Alhaji Abubakar Kana-Zuru, former Governor and Ambassador Saidu Usman Nasamu Dakingari, Acting Speaker of the State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Samaila Muhammad Bagudo, Secretary to the State Government Alh. Yakubu Bala Tafida, Dr. Usman Sani Tunga, members of the National and State Assemblies, members of the State Executive Council, and other party stakeholders.
