Birnin Kebbi, May 21, 2026 (Series News Online)— APC stakeholders from the 21 Local Government Areas of Kebbi State converged on Haliru Audu Stadium in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday and affirmed Governor Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial election.
The affirmation ceremony was conducted by the APC National Committee for Gubernatorial Primaries in the state, led by Hon. Abdulmalik Muhamud. The Gubernatorial Primaries Appeal Committee, INEC officials, and other relevant bodies monitored and supervised the exercise.

Speaking during the exercise, Hon. Abdulmalik Muhamud declared Governor Idris the duly affirmed APC candidate for the 2027 polls, noting that all due processes stipulated by the Electoral Act and the party’s guidelines were observed.

“The process was transparent, credible, and in line with the constitution of our great party. Governor Nasir Idris stands affirmed as the APC consensus candidate for Kebbi State,” Muhamud said.

It would be recalled that Governor Idris was the sole aspirant to purchase the gubernatorial nomination and expression of interest forms from the APC National Headquarters in Abuja. He was also screened and cleared by the party’s Gubernatorial Screening Committee in Abuja two weeks ago.

A former labour leader, Dr. Idris rose to national prominence as President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, and Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, before venturing into partisan politics. He won the 2023 governorship election on the APC platform, defeating the PDP candidate to become the 9th democratically elected governor of Kebbi State.

Stakeholders at the ceremony, including senators, ministers, members of the National and State Assemblies, commissioners, local government chairmen, party chairmen, and women and youth leaders, among others, described the governor as a unifying figure whose first-term performance earned him the trust of the party and the people.

“Kauran Gwandu has redefined governance in Kebbi. His open-door policy and people-oriented projects make him the natural choice to continue,” said the APC State Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Kana Zuru.
In his acceptance speech, Governor Idris thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC National Working Committee, and Kebbi stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him.

“I am humbled by this affirmation. I pledge to deepen the gains recorded in my first term and to run an inclusive government that leaves no community behind,” Idris said.

He called for unity among party members and urged citizens to sustain their support for the APC at all levels to consolidate development across the state.

“I cannot do it alone. With your continued support, we will make Kebbi a model of prosperity in Nigeria,” he added.

The event ended with solidarity chants, cultural displays, and renewed pledges by stakeholders to mobilise grassroots support for the governor and all APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.
