Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, December 30, 2025(Series News Online) - A fire incident damaged a building in the staff quarters of the General Hospital in Bagudo, Kebbi State, in the early hours of Tuesday, December 30, 2025, but fortunately, no lives were lost.
A resident of Bagudo town, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the scene as "an inferno that gut only one of the hospital houses belonging to a nursing officer."
"The nursing officer was sleeping when he woke up to find his house ceiling falling down, and minutes later, the house was ablaze with fire," the source said.
"The nursing officer lost all his house properties, but fortunately, there was no loss of life."
The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the incident, assuring the public of its full control over the security situation.
In a press release, the command said a joint security team of Police, Military, and Vigilante personnel had swiftly cordoned off and secured the affected area.
"Specialist EOD-CBRN teams are on-site conducting a thorough assessment. We are grateful to confirm there are no casualties," the statement read.
SP Bashir Usman, Police Public Relations Officer, Kebbi State Command, said, "We urge the public to remain calm and avoid the immediate vicinity to support the ongoing security and investigative operations."
The Secretary to the Kebbi State Government (SSG), Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida, clarified that the incident was a fire outbreak and not a bomb blast, as widely reported on social media.
"The Kebbi State Government is working closely with the Police and other security agencies, who have since taken full control of the situation," the SSG said.
"The government assures residents that there was no loss of life, and investigations are ongoing to ascertain the exact cause of the fire outbreak."
