Kebbi Deputy Speaker Abducted: Police, Military Join Forces for Rescue

A high-level manhunt has been launched in Kebbi State following the abduction of Hon. Muhammad Sama'ila Bagudo, the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly. The incident occurred on Thursday, October 31, 2025, at approximately 8:20 pm, when a group of heavily armed bandits invaded Bagudo town and forcibly took the lawmaker.

According to a statement by CSP Nafiu Abubakar, Police Public Relations Officer, the Kebbi State Police Command has deployed a joint operation team comprising police tactical units, military personnel, and vigilantes to track down the kidnappers and rescue the abducted deputy speaker. "The combined team is currently scouring the bandits' suspected hideouts and surrounding forests in a bid to rescue Hon. Bagudo unharmed and apprehend the culprits," the statement said.

Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, has reaffirmed the command's commitment to protecting lives and property. "The Command remains resolute in its duty to ensure the safety of residents and will leave no stone unturned in securing the release of the abducted lawmaker," the statement added.

CP Sani urged citizens to remain alert and continue supporting the police and other security agencies in their efforts to maintain peace and stability in the state. The state government and security agencies are working assiduously to secure the safe release of the kidnapped lawmaker.

The abduction has triggered widespread anxiety, with residents demanding enhanced security measures to prevent future occurrences. The Kebbi State Police Command is appealing for information that could lead to the rescue of Hon. Bagudo and the arrest of the kidnappers.
