Kebbi Police Arrest Armed Robbery Suspect, Recover Stolen Motorcycle

The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber and recovered a stolen motorcycle in Gwandu. According to a press release signed by CSP Nafiu Abubakar, Police Public Relations Officer, the suspect, Basiru Lawali, a 22-year-old man from Bancho village in Shagari LGA of Sokoto State, was arrested following a credible lead.

The arrest was made by a combined team of policemen and vigilantes led by the Divisional Police Officer, Gwandu, after one Umar Mode, a 32-year-old man from Dalijan village in Gwandu LGA, was attacked by unidentified hoodlums on October 22, 2025, while on transit along the Gwandu-Birnin Kebbi road. The hoodlums inflicted cuts on Mode's face, stole his unregistered Boxer motorcycle, and a Tecno keypad phone.

The police recovered one unregistered TVS motorcycle from the suspect, who confessed to the crime and mentioned his accomplices, Hassan, Umaru, and Salihu, who are still at large. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Birnin Kebbi, for further investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M. Sani, appreciated the promptness of the DPO Gwandu and his team and urged them to sustain the momentum by conducting aggressive patrols along the Gwandu-Birnin Kebbi road. CP Sani also appealed to motorcyclists to be extremely wary of the type of people they carry, location, and time of conducting their business to forestall the menace of motorcycle snatching in the state.
