The Bauchi Emirate Council has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at promoting peace, unity, and development within the emirate. The Emir of Bauchi, Dr. Rilwanu Sulaimanu Adamu, made this known during the first Mal Yakubun Bauchi Memorial Lecture, held at the Bauchi Central Mosque.
Represented by the Galajen Bauchi, Alhaji Adamu Abba, the Emir described the lecture as a vital tool for promoting the emirate's image by reflecting on the virtues of the late Mal Yakubun Bauchi. "The life of Mal Yakubun Bauchi encouraged peace, unity, and religious tolerance, and the emirate's image," he said.
The Emir advised the forum to ensure proper registration of its members, recognizing their important role in maintaining order during public activities. The Exclusive Chairman of Bauchi local government, Alhaji Mahmud Baba Ma'aji, assured the Council's support for programs that uphold the image of the Bauchi Emirate. Represented by the Council's Secretary, Sani Mahmud Ahmad, he urged residents to embrace activities that preserve cultural heritage and strengthen unity. "We urge residents to support activities that promote our cultural heritage and strengthen unity in the emirate," Ahmad said.
Earlier, the forum's chairman, Prof. Abdullahi Danladi of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, said the memorial lecture was designed to enlighten citizens on the contributions of Mal Yakubun Bauchi to the development of Bauchi and Islam. He called for greater unity among Islamic groups, emphasizing collective responsibility in supporting religious and cultural development. "We must work together to promote our cultural heritage and support each other in our efforts to develop our state and beyond," Danladi said.
The speakers at the lecture highlighted the legacy of Mal Yakubun Bauchi, who was born in 1763 in Tirwun village. They recalled his leadership qualities, particularly his fight against tribalism, promotion of tolerance, and commitment to peace and contentment. "Mal Yakubun Bauchi was a great leader who promoted peace and tolerance, and his legacy continues to inspire us today," said Alhaji Adamu Danrimi, Wakilin Tarihin Bauchi.
Prof. Safiyyuden Abdulkadir added that Mal Yakubun Bauchi's commitment to peace and contentment allowed different groups to practice their faith harmoniously during his time. "His leadership was marked by peace and stability, and his legacy remains an inspiration to us today," Abdulkadir said.
