"New Law Proposed: Kebbi Govt Seeks Stiff Penalty for Bandit Informants"

Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State - The Kebbi State Government has announced plans to introduce a new law that would expedite the trial of informants who aid bandits, leading to death sentence or life imprisonment. Governor Nasir Idris made this known during a visit to the villages of Kyebu in Danko-Wasagu Local Government and Tadurga in Zuru Local Government, where bandits had recently unleashed mayhem.

"We shall formulate a new law in Kebbi to hasten the trial of informants leading to death sentence or life imprisonment," Governor Idris stated. "The government appeals to all communities to expose them wherever they may be; they are a danger to society, and we shall take any informant arrested direct to the state capital for necessary action immediately."

The Governor, accompanied by all Heads of Security Agencies in Kebbi, reassured the communities that the Federal Government had deployed additional logistics and war machinery to confront the criminals head-on. "Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) will be deployed to the state, and I have directed that some should be stationed at vulnerable points in Zuru Emirate," he said.

Governor Idris highlighted the significant improvement in security in Zuru Emirate since his administration took office, attributing it to the enormous resources expended on security matters. However, he expressed concern over the nefarious activities of informants who direct bandits to places and homes to be attacked.

The Emir of Zuru, Maj-Gen. (rtd) Muhammadu Sani Sami, Gomo, the Second, commended the Governor's efforts to improve security in the Emirate. "If you curtail the activities of informants, our work is almost done; they are the couriers of intelligence for bandits," the Emir remarked.

The Governor's visit was attended by the Speaker of the Kebbi House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru, former Governor Sa'idu Dakingari, Kebbi APC Chairman, Kana Zuru, Minister of State, Humanitarian Affairs, Yusuf Tanko Sununu, and members of the National and State Assemblies.
