The Bauchi State Government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening state-owned media outfits in line with modern broadcasting standards. State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Usman Shehu Usman, made this assurance on Wednesday during the opening of a three-day capacity-building workshop for staff of Bauchi Radio Corporation (BRC) and Bauchi State Television Authority (BATV).
The training, which targets editors, reporters, producers, presenters, and other key personnel in both radio and television sectors, aims to enhance skills, share knowledge, and improve content delivery. According to the commissioner, the state government is not only working to revive BRC and BATV but also plans to recruit additional staff to support their operations.
"We are working to revive BRC and BATV in the collective interest of the state and its people," Hon. Usman said. "Productivity cannot be achieved without capacity development, hence our decision to initiate professional training sessions aimed at enhancing skills, sharing knowledge, and improving content delivery."
The commissioner expressed hope that the training would lead to improved performance, ranging from excellent reporting and strong editorial judgment to creative programming and innovative presentation. Hon. Usman described the training as a "school of its own," noting that it offers an avenue for open discussion, in-depth analysis, and forward-looking forecasting of news and program trends. He urged participants to make the most of the opportunity by staying focused and actively engaging in all sessions.
The commissioner emphasized the importance of continuous training and development for media personnel, saying it should be an ongoing process.
