In a highly competitive election held at the Children Amusement Park in Lokoja, Alhaji Aliyu Garba emerged as the newly elected chairman of the Kogi State Hausa Traders Association. Garba, the most popular candidate in the election, secured 82 votes, defeating his rival Alhaji Sani Hassan, who garnered 44 votes.
Honourable Abubakar Danjuma, the secretary of Lokoja Local Government, declared the results of the keenly contested elections. According to Danjuma, all positions were contested, except for the secretary position, which was won unopposed by Alhaji Abubakar Ibrahim.
Other winners include Alhaji Lawal Muhammed, who secured the office of P.R.O 1 with 71 votes, defeating Aminu Jalo, who scored 52 votes. Alhaji Ahmed Salisu won the R.O 2 position with 59 votes, while Alhaji Zakariya Sule garnered 49 votes. The office of Treasurer was closely contested, with Alhaji Lawal Mukhtar emerging victorious with 58 votes, narrowly defeating Alhaji Dauda Alfa, who scored 57 votes.
In his acceptance speech, Chairman Aliyu Garba emphasized the association's commitment to advancing the welfare of its members. "My administration shall continue to prioritize the welfare of our members and ensure the association's unwavering dedication to progress," he stated. Garba also commended His Royal Highness, Maigari of Lokoja, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo Kabir Maikarfi IV, for his fatherly role and promised to justify the confidence reposed in him.
Alhaji Sani Hassan, who came second in the election, urged both winners and losers to work together for the betterment of the association. "This is one family. We are all brothers here," he said, expressing appreciation for the electoral committee, INEC, and security personnel for conducting a free, fair, and credible election.
