The Federal Government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has launched the Presidential CNG Initiative to alleviate transportation hardships following last year's fuel subsidy removal. This program includes donating sixty-four 100-occupancy and 15-seater buses to students and labor unions.
The initiative aims to reduce the impact of transportation challenges across the country. The buses, which run on compressed natural gas (CNG), were handed over by the minister of Finance Mr. Wale Edu with the help of minister Budget and Economic planning, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu and the minister of information and Culture, Muhammad Idris among other federal government officials to representatives of labor unions, including the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), as well as the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).
Distribution of CNG tricycles set to commence in October. This significant move demonstrates the government's commitment to enhancing transportation and mobility for Nigerian workers and students. The use of CNG buses is also expected to reduce the country's reliance on fossil fuels and mitigate environmental impacts.
