Kebbi State Government has vowed to enforce environmental laws on shop owners who refuse to maintain a clean environment. Barrister Kudirat Shaibu Diri, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, issued this warning during the monthly environmental exercise held on the last Saturday of the month.
The State Task Force on Environment, led by Barrister Kudirat Diri, conducted a cleanup exercise in Birnin Kebbi, focusing on Illelar Yari area. A meat vendor with a dirty shade was ordered to sweep the premises immediately and warned to observe environmental rules.
The Mobile Court will issue warnings to first-time offenders and prosecute repeat violators. The government aims to emphasize the importance of sanitation and sensitize the public. Governor Nasir Idris resuscitated monthly environmental sanitation to ensure the healthy wellbeing of citizens, emphasizing "The health of one is the health of all".
Governor Nasir Idris, who assumed office on May 29, 2023, is committed to promoting a clean and healthy environment . The Kebbi State Government has established laws and institutions to protect the environment, including the Kebbi State Environmental Protection Agency (KESEPA).
