Birnin Kebbi, Nigeria, May 12, 2026(Series News Online)- The Technical Working Group on Gender-Based Violence, TWG on GBV, Kebbi State, has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting survivors and vulnerable persons with an official visit to Baby Hafsat in Kamba, Dandi Local Government Area.
The delegation departed Birnin Kebbi at 9:45 a.m. on May 11, 2026, and arrived at the residence of Alhaji Kabiru Sinkin, the child’s foster father, at 11:02 a.m.
Led by the Secretary of TWG on GBV, Comrade Nasiru Idris, the seven-member team visited to appreciate and encourage the Sinkin family for voluntarily taking custody of Hafsat, who will turn one year old in June 2026.
The case dates back to June 2025, when the group reported the rescue of an infant found buried alive for two days on a farmland in Kamba. According to the group, Alhaji Kabiru Sinkin, a farmer, alerted police officers at a nearby checkpoint after discovering the baby. She was rushed to hospital, received medical care, and survived. Investigations later led to the arrest of the biological mother.
During the visit, members of the delegation said they found Baby Hafsat in excellent health, cheerful, smiling, and neatly dressed.
“We were overwhelmed with joy and satisfaction upon seeing the remarkable care and affection she has been receiving from her foster family,” Comrade Idris said. “It was evident that everyone in the household shares deep love and compassion for the child.”
He noted that Hafsat displayed a strong emotional bond and calmness whenever Alhaji Sinkin and his wife carried her.
In recognition of the family’s selfless dedication, the TWG on GBV presented the foster parents with a cash gift of ₦100,000 to support the child’s upkeep and wellbeing.
The team encouraged Alhaji Sinkin to continue his humanitarian efforts. “Your kindness, sacrifice, and commitment to humanity are deeply valued and will be rewarded by Allah,” Idris said.
He added that the group would formally communicate the family’s gesture to Her Excellency, Hajiya Zainab Nasare Kauran Gwandu, the First Lady of Kebbi State and Chairperson of the TWG on GBV.
The TWG on GBV also expressed gratitude to the First Lady for her leadership and support.
“We appreciate Her Excellency, Hajiya Zainab Nasare Kauran Gwandu, for providing the enabling environment for the committee to protect, support, and stand firmly for the rights of survivors and vulnerable persons across Kebbi State,” Idris said.
He said her passion for justice and commitment to the welfare of women and children continued to inspire the group’s work and strengthen the fight against gender-based violence in the state.
