Birnin Kebbi, Nigeria, May 29, 2026 (Series News Online)— Kebbi State marked the third year of Governor Nasir Idris’ administration on Friday with a special prayer session, as religious leaders and government officials converged to seek God’s intervention for lasting peace and accelerated development.
The gathering held at the Presidential Banquet Hall in Birnin Kebbi attracted prominent Islamic scholars, traditional rulers, political appointees, and community representatives from across the state.
Governor Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, led the administration in expressing appreciation to God for divine protection and the progress achieved since 2023.
“Speaking at the event, Governor Nasir Idris expressed profound gratitude to Almighty Allah for His guidance, protection, and the remarkable progress recorded by the administration over the past three years,” a statement from Government House said.
He credited the administration’s achievements to divine favour and the collective supplications of Kebbi people.
“He said the successes achieved by his government were manifestations of Allah’s blessings and the prayers consistently offered by the people of the state,” the statement added.
The governor restated his government’s dependence on faith as a guiding principle in leadership.
“The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering belief in Allah, the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), and the power of sincere prayers, noting that prayer has remained a cornerstone of his government’s approach to leadership and governance,” the release stated.
Governor Idris emphasized that entrusting governance to God remained central to his leadership philosophy.
“We have always believed in Allah and Prophet Muhammad (SAW), that is why we commit all our affairs to Almighty Allah,” Governor Idris said.
“We believe in the power of prayers in whatever we do,” he added.
He also praised religious leaders for their consistent support and counsel throughout his tenure.
“Governor Idris commended Islamic scholars and religious leaders for their steadfast support, guidance, and prayers for the state, describing their contributions as invaluable to the peace, stability, and development being witnessed in Kebbi State,” the statement noted.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Religious Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad A. Bala, explained that the session was convened to thank God and request divine direction for the next phase of governance.
Alhaji Bala revealed that clerics had set aside May 29 annually as a day of special prayer for the governor and his administration.
He further highlighted prayer as a vital instrument for good governance.
“The Permanent Secretary emphasized the importance of continuous prayers for leaders, stressing that prayer remains a powerful tool for attaining peace, progress, and prosperity in society,” he stated.
Renowned clerics who led the prayers included Malam Nazifi Abubakar, Prof. Abubakar Wali, Sheikh Aliyu Ladda Bunza, Malam Nataraba Yauri, Sheikh Usman Na’ayi Jega, and Sarkin Mallaman Gwandu, Sheikh Ibrahim Wala.
“The clerics prayed for Allah’s protection over Governor Nasir Idris, members of his administration, and the people of Kebbi State, while also seeking divine blessings for lasting peace, unity, and sustainable development in the state,” the statement said.
Officials said the prayer session was part of a series of activities lined up to commemorate three years of the Kauran Gwandu administration, which has recorded measurable gains in infrastructure, education, health care delivery, and agricultural development across Kebbi State.
