Birnin Kebbi, Nigeria April 05, 2026(Series News Online)-The wife of Kebbi State Governor, Hajiya Nafisa Idris, has launched a campaign to combat malaria in the state, urging residents to make proper use of insecticide-treated mosquito nets. The appeal was made during her investiture as the state's Net Ambassador, alongside wives of Local Government Chairmen, who were inaugurated as Net Advocates.
"We must all play our part to ensure a malaria-free Kebbi. These nets are meant to protect our families, especially children and other vulnerable groups," Hajiya Idris said. "I urge all beneficiaries to visit designated collection centres to receive their nets and adhere strictly to instructions given by health personnel on their proper use."
The State Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Samaila Yakubu, announced that the distribution of 3.15 million mosquito nets would begin on April 11 across the state. "This exercise is a major intervention aimed at reducing malaria cases," he said. "We commend Gov. Nasir Idris and his wife for their sustained commitment to improving healthcare delivery and combating malaria in the state."
The Director of Public Health in the ministry, Alhaji Usman Magaji, said the campaign was being supported by UNICEF and would engage 12,600 personnel to carry out the distribution exercise across the 21 local government areas in the state. The intervention is valued at about N1.2 billion, covering procurement, logistics, and transportation of the mosquito nets.
