The Executive Chairman of the Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alhaji Adamu Muhammad Duguri, has dissolved all education supervisors in the Bauchi Local Government Education Authority and directed them to return to classroom teaching with immediate effect.
Alhaji Duguri issued the directive while addressing journalists following an unscheduled monitoring visit to selected schools outside the Bauchi metropolis on the first day of third-term resumption. He explained that the decision was necessitated by gross misconduct exhibited by the affected supervisors, whom he described as unpatriotic.
The chairman also ordered disciplinary actions, including demotion, suspension, and formal queries for teachers and staff found guilty of absenteeism or other forms of misconduct. Moreover, the chairman emphasized that outstanding and dedicated personnel will be promoted accordingly. Alhaji Duguri reiterated the government’s commitment to providing a conducive learning environment and improving teachers’ welfare.
He warned that all stipulated rules will henceforth be strictly enforced against any staff found guilty of truancy. Alhaji Duguri expressed deep dissatisfaction over the low turnout of both teachers and students, attributing the situation to the lax attitude of School-Based Management Committees, principals, and other stakeholders.
He emphasized that despite the state government's efforts, such as salary increments for teachers and the provision of a conducive learning environment, many schools are still underperforming.
Reacting to the development, the Education Secretary of the Bauchi Local Government Authority, Hajiya Talatu Yakubu, expressed satisfaction with the monitoring exercise, especially within Bauchi metropolis, where she reported a large turnout of students and teachers. She contrasted this with schools outside the city, where many teachers were absent, thereby discouraging student attendance.
Yakubu reaffirmed the state government’s resolve to stop the salaries of teachers who abscond without valid written justification and pledged that dedicated staff would be duly rewarded. She also commended Governor Bala Mohammed and SUBEB Chairman Alhaji Adamu Muhammad Duguri for their unwavering commitment to education and the broader development of Bauchi State.
