Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, has appealed for calm in Alwasa, Argungu Local Government Area, after a violent clash between Hausa and Fulani youths left three people dead.
The governor made the appeal during an on-the-spot visit to the community, where he condemned the killings and warned against reprisal attacks. "As a government, we will not tolerate lawlessness. Anyone found to have taken part in these killings, regardless of tribe or status, will be arrested, investigated and prosecuted," he said.
According to reports, the crisis began with a misunderstanding involving Fulani youths who engaged in motorcycle stunts, which attracted the disapproval of local youths. The altercation led to the death of one Hausa resident, followed by reprisal attacks on Fulani residents, resulting in two more deaths.
Governor Idris directed security agencies to intensify investigations and track down those involved in the violence, assuring residents of government commitment to protecting lives and property. "We cannot allow innocent people to suffer for offences they did not commit," he said.
The Chairman of Argungu Local Government Area, Alhaji Sani Aliyu Gulma, confirmed the violence was triggered by the stabbing incident and commended the governor for his swift intervention.
The Kebbi State Police Command has deployed personnel to maintain law and order, and a comprehensive investigation is underway to identify and apprehend those involved.
