Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) has welcomed 4,355 new students into its various degree programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session. The institution's Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibrahim Hassan Garba, emphasized ATBU's commitment to academic excellence and global competitiveness during the matriculation ceremony at the 1,000-capacity Lecture Theatre, Yelwa Campus.
"ATBU continues to strengthen its reputation through innovative programmes in sciences, engineering, health sciences and other key disciplines," Prof. Garba said. "We urge you to remain focused on your academic goals and avoid distractions."
The Vice-Chancellor warned the students against cultism, drug abuse, and other social vices, stressing that ATBU maintains a zero-tolerance policy. "Any student found involved in cultism, examination malpractice or other forms of misconduct will face strict disciplinary action, including possible expulsion and prosecution," he said.
Prof. Garba advised the students to prioritize their studies, utilize university facilities effectively, and cultivate discipline, diligence, and punctuality. He encouraged them to familiarize themselves with the Students' Handbook and congratulated the new students on securing admission.
ATBU Registrar, Kabiru Garba Aminu, administered the matriculation oath and urged the students to adhere to university regulations. "We remain committed to providing quality education and a conducive environment for learning," he said. "Violations of university regulations will attract sanctions."
The ceremony featured the presentation of letters of commendation to students with CGPAs of 4.5 and above. The 4,355 students were admitted into various faculties, including Agriculture and Agricultural Technology, College of Medical Sciences, Computing, Engineering and Engineering Technology, Environmental Technology, Management Sciences, Science, SPESSECE, and Technology Education.
