Zulum Launches Farm Tools Distribution, Commissions Islamic School in Damasak

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has distributed farm tools to farmers and commissioned a new high Islamic school in Damasak, Mobbar Local Government Area, as part of efforts to enhance food security and education in the region.

The ceremony, held on Sunday, February 22, 2026, was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, and Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, among other notable guests.

Zulum, accompanied by the dignitaries, flagged off the distribution of 1,000 solar-powered water pumps and 200 complete tubewell drilling kits to support dry-season farming and improve the livelihoods of returnees resettling in the community.

"From the beginning of this administration, dry season irrigation farming was adopted as a strategic component of the state's food security framework," Zulum said. "Today's distribution builds upon earlier targeted interventions in Damasak and surrounding communities, including irrigation infrastructure development, mechanisation services, farmer-training, cooperative support, and security stabilisation measures."

At the commissioning of the Higher Islamic College, Zulum noted, "This represents a major milestone in the state government's policy to expand and modernise sangaya education across Borno State. This intervention reflects our commitment to building an inclusive education system that integrates spiritual development with academic and vocational advancement."

Commissioner of Education, Engr Lawan Abba Wakilbe, praised Governor Zulum's efforts, saying, "Under his leadership, the state has constructed 104 Mega Schools, rehabilitated and remodelled 1,087 classrooms, and restored 30 flood-affected schools."

The event was also attended by key state officials, including Secretary to Borno State Government, Bukar Tijani, Commissioner for Agriculture, Engr Bawu Musami, and APC Women Leader, Hajiya Fati Alkali Kakenna.
