The Kebbi State Government has established a Visitation Panel to investigate the ongoing challenges at the state-owned Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology (AFUST), Aliero.
Governor Nasir Idris inaugurated the panel on Monday, tasking it to conduct a thorough investigation and make recommendations to resolve the crisis. "The panel should investigate the root causes of the disputes and make far-reaching recommendations aimed at permanently resolving the crisis," he said.
The panel is chaired by Professor Muhammad Abubakar Ka’oje, a former Minister of Science and Technology and pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the institution. Governor Idris expressed confidence in the panel's ability to deliver a credible report, citing the members' professional standing and integrity.
"The situation at the university has been a concern, with persistent internal crises affecting academic and administrative activities," Governor Idris said. "I urge the panel to work diligently to resolve the issues and recommend practical solutions in the best interest of the university."
Professor Ka’oje assured the Governor that the panel would execute its task with diligence, courage, and professionalism. "We will recommend practical solutions to address the challenges facing the university and ensure it becomes a citadel of learning," he said.
The panel's establishment follows efforts by the Ministry of Higher Education to resolve the issues, which had not yielded the desired results. The Governor warned that any act of non-compliance by the university management would attract serious consequences.
