The Committee set up by the Kebbi State Government to investigate recent fire outbreaks in schools across the state has begun its work, visiting Government Girls Unity Secondary School, Birnin Kebbi, on Friday.
The committee, led by Hon. Ibrahim Muhammad Sakaba, Commissioner for Innovation and Digital Economy, inspected the school's E-library, which was recently ravaged by fire, resulting in significant losses, including textbooks and computers.
"This committee was established by Governor Nasir Idris to assess the extent of damage, sympathize with those affected, and submit a comprehensive report to the government," Sakaba explained.
The committee's visit aimed to determine the cause of the fire and identify measures to prevent future incidents. Members include representatives from the Ministry of Education, SUBEB, Nigeria Police, Department of State Services, and the Fire Service.
Hajiya Murjanatu Attahiru Wala, the school's principal, briefed the committee on the incident and accompanied them on an inspection of the damaged library section.
The Kebbi State Government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring student safety and preventing future fire incidents.
