Emir of Argungu Visits BBC Hausa Ahead of Grand Fishing Festival

The Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammed Mera, was hosted at the BBC Hausa Service office in Abuja, where he shed light on the history, preparations, and significance of the Argungu Fishing and International Festival. The four-day festival is scheduled to hold from February 11 to 14 this year.

During his visit, the Emir employed his renowned oratory skills and detailed explanations to outline the festival’s origins and highlight its relevance and impact since it began in 1934. He was warmly received by all staff on duty, led by Unit Head Haruna Tangaza.

“The Argungu Fishing Festival is a cultural heritage that has been a cornerstone of our community for decades,” said the Emir. “It’s a celebration of our history, our people, and our traditions.”

Those who accompanied the Emir included the Commissioner of Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed BK; Director General of the Main Organizing Committee, Alhaji Safiyanu Garba Bena; the Kundudan Kabi, Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan Kwaido; and the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Argungu.
