Zaria Records 76 Fire Outbreaks, Saves Properties Worth Over ₦4bn — Federal Fire Service

The Federal Fire Service, Zaria Area Command, has recorded a total of 76 fire outbreaks across Zaria and its environs from 2025 to date. The Area Commander, Assistant Controller of Fire (ACF) Aminu Ahmadu, disclosed this during an interview with journalists in Zaria.

According to ACF Ahmadu, residential buildings accounted for about 50 percent of the recorded fire incidents, making houses the most affected structures in the area. He attributed the frequent fire outbreaks largely to negligence in the handling and use of electrical appliances.

"We have been able to save properties worth over four billion naira and rescued several injured victims during emergency operations within the period," said ACF Ahmadu. "The rate of fire outbreaks has been on the decline, and we credit this development to increased public enlightenment and awareness campaigns by our operational department."

The Area Commander revealed that about seven persons lost their lives as a result of fire incidents during the period under review. He warned unpatriotic individuals against making false emergency calls to the fire service, stressing that such actions hinder prompt response to genuine emergencies.

"We urge the public to desist from calling emergency numbers without any actual fire outbreak," ACF Ahmadu said. "Citizens need to cultivate a strong fire-safety culture by installing and maintaining basic firefighting equipment in their homes, markets, and public places."

ACF Ahmadu emphasized the importance of fire safety and prevention, urging residents to take responsibility for preventing fire outbreaks. "With collective efforts, we can reduce the incidence of fire outbreaks and keep our communities safe," he added.
