Kebbi Governor Charges Forest Guards to Combat Terrorism with Discipline

Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu has commissioned the first batch of Nigerian Forest Guard graduands, urging them to uphold courage, discipline, and human rights in combating terrorism. Represented by Deputy Governor Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, the Governor emphasized their critical role in securing forests from terrorists, bandits, and kidnappers.

"The Nigerian Forest Guards are a vital extension of our national security forces," Senator Tafida said. "You are expected to collaborate with the Nigerian Army, Police, DSS, and other agencies to safeguard our people". 

The graduands, 819 in total, underwent rigorous three-month training covering counter-banditry, insurgency, and human rights. They were drawn from Arewa, Augie, Dandi, and Danko Wasagu local government areas. 

National Security Adviser Malam Nuhu Ribadu highlighted the initiative's aim to protect national heritage and ecosystems. "The mandate of forest guards is to guard national heritage, protect ecosystems, and help in national security architecture," he said.

Governor Idris assured unwavering state government support, while Deputy Governor Tafida urged communities to cooperate with the Forest Guards.
