The Kebbi State government has taken a significant step towards enhancing healthcare services by allocating N4.05 billion for the renovation of seven general hospitals across the state. This was revealed by the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Junaidu Bello Marshall, during a press conference following the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting.
Marshall explained that the funds will be utilized to upgrade healthcare facilities in Kambaza, Suru, Kamba, Dirin-Daji, Kangiwa, Koko, and Yauri. This initiative is part of the state government's commitment to providing quality healthcare services to its citizens. "The council has approved N4.05 billion for the rehabilitation of seven general hospitals, demonstrating our administration's dedication to improving healthcare delivery," Marshall stated.
He highlighted that the state government has made significant progress in healthcare infrastructure development, with 16 general hospitals already renovated under Governor Idris' administration. The new approval will bring the total number of renovated hospitals to 23. Marshall assured that the governor is committed to rehabilitating and equipping all 30 general hospitals in the state.
In a related development, the council approved N570 million for the Kebbi State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KECHEMA) to register 45,000 vulnerable individuals under the State Social Register. This initiative aims to provide affordable healthcare services to the poor and vulnerable populations.
Additionally, the state government has provided counterpart funding for the rehabilitation of 73 primary healthcare centers under the World Bank IMPACT project. The council also approved the rehabilitation of 42 more primary healthcare centers across the state.
The council further approved N407.5 million as a take-off grant for the Kebbi State Drugs, Medical and Consumable Agency, which will ensure the availability of subsidized drugs in the state. Marshall appealed for the public's support and understanding, assuring that the government remains committed to improving the living standards of its citizens.
