Birnin Kebbi, Nigeria – June 15, 2026 (Series News Online)-The Kebbi State Government has declared Tuesday, June 16, 2026, a work-free day to allow public servants and residents to mark the commencement of the Islamic New Year, 1448 After Hijrah.
The declaration was approved by the Governor of Kebbi State, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, according to a circular from the Ministry of Establishment, Pension and Training.
“The Kebbi State Government has declared Tuesday, 16th June, 2026, as a work-free day to enable public servants and the people of the state to celebrate the commencement of the Islamic New Year, 1448 AH,” the circular stated.
“The circular, dated 9th June, 2026, and signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hajiya Hafsat Ibrahim Tune, for the Honourable Commissioner, directed all public servants to observe the holiday in commemoration of the beginning of the new Islamic calendar year,” the statement said.
The state government extended felicitations to the Muslim Ummah and urged citizens to use the period for prayers.
“The State Government, while congratulating the Muslim Ummah on the occasion, urged the people of Kebbi State to use the period to pray for sustained peace, unity, prosperity and continued progress of the state and the nation at large,” it added.
The government also announced the resumption date for official activities after the holiday.
“The government further informed workers and members of the public that normal official activities will resume on Wednesday, 17th June, 2026,” the circular noted.
