Public Enlightenment Programme: Kebbi NOA Engages Stakeholders on Key Issues

The Kebbi State National Orientation Agency (NOA) has organized a day-long nationwide public enlightenment programme on five key issues, bringing together stakeholders from various sectors. The programme, held at the Kebbi State Ministry for Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs hall, featured paper presentations on national identity and values reorientation, flood mitigation strategies, disaster preparedness, and security awareness campaigns.

Mrs. Larai Saminu Nazo, Assistant Director at NOA, delivered a paper on national identity and values reorientation, while Mrs. Hassana Yusuf Muhammad, also an Assistant Director, presented on flood mitigation strategies and disaster preparedness. The Director of NOA, Malam Muhammad Nasiru Karofi, presented on security awareness campaigns, government policies, and programmes at both state and federal levels.

The programme drew attendance from key stakeholders, including the Commissioner of Police, Commanding Officer of Nigeria Army Dukku Barracks, Commissioners for Water Resources, Basic and Secondary Education, Higher Education, and Agriculture, among others. The zonal coordinator of NEMA, Kebbi State Executive Secretary of SEMA, Controller of Nigerian Immigration Service, Commandant of NDLEA, Commandant of NSCDC, Controller of Nigerian Correctional Service, and Commandant of VGN also participated.

In his presentation, the Director of NOA, Malam Muhammad Nasiru Karofi, emphasized that security is a collective responsibility. "We should not only think of a kinetic approach to solving security issues," he said. "We need to identify the causes and block people from perpetrating insecurity in our towns and villages." He highlighted the need to address economic challenges and societal issues that contribute to insecurity.

Karofi appealed to stakeholders and participants to take back lessons learned to their communities and promote community policing in an organized manner. He also emphasized the importance of proactive measures to avert flooding, which is often caused by encroaching structures under waterways and dumping refuse in drainages.

The stakeholders made valuable contributions and goodwill messages, highlighting the importance of collaboration in addressing national issues. The programme aimed to raise awareness and promote understanding of key national issues, fostering a more informed and engaged citizenry. Karofi expressed appreciation to all stakeholders who attended the programme and prayed for their safe journey back to their respective destinations.
