A chieftain of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Kebbi State, Abdulgaffar Tukur, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing his conviction in the progressive vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Nasir Idris.

In a statement released today, Tukur, who was the Special Assistant on Legislative Matters to Hon. Ibrahim Mohammed, representing Birnin Kebbi/Kalgo/Bunza Federal Constituency, announced his resignation from the PDP and his decision to join the APC.

According to Tukur, his decision was guided by patriotism and his desire to contribute meaningfully to the peace, unity, and development of Kalgo Local Government and Kebbi State. "With humility and determination, I have joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) through the encouragement and leadership of the Honourable Commissioner of Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Abba Sani, and the Honourable Member Representing Kalgo Local Government, Hon. Rilwanu Sahabi," he said.

Tukur expressed gratitude to the PDP family for the opportunities and friendships shared, but stated that the time had come for him to move forward in the best interest of the people. "Together, let us rally behind the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Nasir Idris (Kauran Gwandu) for a greater and more prosperous Kebbi State and Nigeria at large," he added.

The defection is seen as a boost to the APC in Kebbi State, coming at a time when the party is working to strengthen its presence in the state.
