Kebbi Police Recover Stolen Mercedes Benz, Arrest Suspect in Crackdown on Unregistered Vehicles

Birnin Kebbi, Nigeria –June 10, 2026 (Series News Online) –The Kebbi State Police Command has intensified enforcement against vehicles operating without valid registration or with concealed and altered number plates, in compliance with the Inspector-General of Police’s directive to enhance public safety and prevent crime.  

Police operatives in Birnin Kebbi recovered a stolen gold-coloured Mercedes Benz C200, 2009 model, and arrested one suspect following a tip-off through the Command’s emergency communication channels.  

“As part of this enforcement drive, police operatives in Birnin Kebbi recovered a stolen gold-coloured Mercedes Benz C200, 2009 model, following a tip-off received through the Command’s emergency communication channels,” the Command stated.  

“The vehicle was recovered at Bayan Kara area, where one suspect, Ahmed Sa’adu, was arrested. A second suspect, Kasimu Bunza, remains at large. Tools suspected to have been used in the theft were also recovered,” the police said.  

“Preliminary investigation confirmed that the vehicle was stolen from Abdulaziz Abubakar Sadik of Sokoto State. The arrested suspect is in custody, and investigations continue to uncover the full details of the theft and ensure that all persons connected are brought to justice,” the Command said.  

The Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State, warned that vehicles without valid registration plates, and those with concealed, defaced, altered, or obstructed number plates, will be impounded and their owners prosecuted in accordance with the law.  

“Vehicles without valid registration plates, as well as those with concealed, defaced, altered, or obstructed number plates, will face lawful enforcement actions,” the Commissioner said.  

He noted that proper vehicle registration is essential to crime prevention and public security because unregistered vehicles are frequently used by criminal elements to commit offences.  

The Commissioner added that intelligence-led operations will be sustained across all local government areas to safeguard lives and
