A non-governmental organization, Catalysing Strengthened Policy Action for Healthy Diets and Resilience (CASCADE) Nigeria, has revitalized nutrition corners and facility gardens in four local government areas of Kebbi State. With support of CARE and GAIN, in collaboration with the FAcE-PaM and funding from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Netherlands, the initiative aims to improve nutrition services and education in the state.
According to Mr. Agamalafiya Jonathan, Health and Nutrition Technical Officer of CASCADE, the project was executed at Gulumbe, Bunza, Dakingari, and Felende Primary Healthcare Centres. "We provided essential items such as cooking utensils, tables, chairs, whiteboards, markers, weighing scales, height boards, tapes, and other vital tools to aid education and nutrition services at the centres," Jonathan said during an intervention exercise in Bunza Local Government Area.
Jonathan urged women to apply the knowledge gained in their daily lives and share the practices with their families and neighbours. "The fight against malnutrition could be won through consistent efforts with families and communities," he emphasized. He also advised women to establish household gardens to plant vegetables such as tomatoes, pepper, and other perishables.
Mustapha Abdullahi, Officer In-Charge of Bunza Primary Healthcare Centre, cautioned mothers against giving water to infants under six months, stressing that it could affect the child's immune system. "This event reflected the commitment of health workers, development partners, and communities towards building healthy families and strong communities in the state," Abdullahi said.
