Bauchi Invites Contractors for N3.55bn UBEC Projects

The Bauchi State Government has opened the bidding process for the 2024 Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC)/Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) intervention projects, valued at N3,554,642,584.46. The Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Alhaji Adamu Muhammad Duguri, said the exercise aims to strengthen transparency, accountability, and due diligence in project execution.

Duguri, represented by the Permanent Secretary of SUBEB, Abdulhameed Muhammad Jubrin, explained that the intervention project is a joint initiative with 50% counterpart funding from both UBEC and Bauchi State. The bidding slots cover various components, including classroom construction and renovation, borehole drilling, and furniture provision.

Duguri commended Governor Bala Mohammed and the Executive Secretary of UBEC for releasing counterpart funds promptly, describing the gesture as crucial to sustaining education development in the state. He urged contractors to maintain patience and maturity, warning that the Board would not compromise standards.

The Director of Physical Planning at SUBEB, Bldr. Adamu Y. Abdullahi, noted that the Board has achieved a 98% completion rate in intervention projects between 2017 and 2023, attributing the success to the dedication of SUBEB's chairman and staff.

The Director of School Services, Shuaibu Usman, emphasized the importance of tree planting in schools to improve the learning environment and revealed plans to establish climate change clubs across schools.

The Chairman of the Bauchi State Contractors Association, Usama Aliyu Wundi, expressed confidence in the government's performance and pledged contractors' commitment to delivering quality projects.
