The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested 10 suspects in connection with the kidnapping and murder of Sufiyanu Garba, who was killed in a March 13 incident in Birnin Kebbi. The victim's wife, Zainab Mohammad, who was abducted, has been safely reunited with her family.
"The Kebbi State Police Command wishes to update the general public on the tragic incident that occurred on 13th March, 2026, at Badariya Area of Birnin Kebbi, which resulted in the death of Sufiyanu Garba and the abduction of his wife," said SP Bashir Usman, Police Public Relations Officer.
According to the police, the suspects, including Zakariya Abubakar Diggi and Joseph Dahali Wanda, were arrested following a coordinated effort by operatives of the State Intelligence Department and the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department.
"Preliminary investigation revealed that Zakariya Abubakar Diggi and Joseph Dahali Wanda are SIM registration agents who specialized in the fraudulent registration of SIM cards using proxy subscriber information, which were subsequently used by the kidnappers for ransom negotiation," the police statement read.
Commissioner of Police, CP Umar M Hadejia, commended the operatives for their professionalism and dedication, assuring that the case will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation.
"The Command reiterates that robust measures have been emplaced to prevent a recurrence and appreciates the continued support and cooperation of members of the public," SP Usman said.
