"Yauri Gets Relief: Kebbi Gov Releases Funds for 11 Motorized Boreholes to Tackle Water Scarcity"

The Yauri Local Government Council has taken a significant step towards addressing the perennial water scarcity in the area by constructing 11 motorized boreholes in ten political wards. The project, which was approved and funded by the Kebbi State Government under the leadership of Governor Dr. Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu, aims to provide adequate drinking water supply to the people of Yauri and its environs.

According to the Chairman of Yauri Local Government Council, Alhaji Abubakar Shuaibu, popularly known as Abu Manager Kauran Yauri, the project was borne out of the numerous complaints received from the people on the lack of adequate water supply in the area. "We held a meeting with all the ten political wards councillors, party wards chairmen, and all Yauri local government stakeholders, and we agreed to select one community under each political ward to benefit from this motorized boreholes pumps project," he explained.

Each of the motorized boreholes will be equipped with an overhead tank and a generator power house, and will cost over N12 million due to the high inflation of materials. The total cost of the project is estimated to be over N132 million. The Chairman assured the people that the council will continue to prioritize their needs and ensure that all settlements in Yauri Local Government Area have access to adequate drinking water supply.

The ten political wards that benefited from the project are Gunbi, Jijima, Zamare, Gungun Sarki, Yelwa East, Yelwa West, Yelwa South, Yelwa Central, Yelwa North, and Tondi, including the Yauri Local Government Secretariat. The Chairman expressed gratitude to Governor Dr. Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu for his support and approval of the project, and assured the people that the council will continue to work towards providing priority projects for their benefit.

The people of Yauri have been struggling with water scarcity for years, with many resorting to getting their drinking water from the Yauri River or buying from water vendors who sell at exorbitant prices. The construction of the motorized boreholes is expected to alleviate the suffering of the people and improve their access to clean drinking water.

In a related development, water vendors in Yauri have been selling water to the people at prices ranging from N1,000 to N2,000 per wheel truckload, depending on the distance and location. Some of the vendors, who spoke to our correspondent, disclosed that they have been in the business for 3 to 5 years and earn an average of N300,000 per month. They expressed hope that the new water supply project will improve the water situation in the area and reduce their business activities.
