Argungu, Kebbi State, Nigeria - August 29, 2025(Series News Online)

The Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Samaila Muhammed Mera, has condemned lawlessness in the country, calling for a strengthened justice system to hold citizens accountable for their actions. The traditional ruler made the remarks during a visit by the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, who was represented by the Director of Media and Communication.

The NOA delegation, which included the Kebbi State Director, Mallam Mohammed Nasir Karofi, and other management staff, paid an advocacy visit to the Emir as part of a nationwide campaign to address pressing challenges facing the country. The campaign focuses on security awareness, promoting national values, and the Nigeria Identity Project, among other initiatives.
The Emir commended the NOA for its efforts in promoting public enlightenment and value reorientation. However, he expressed concern about the brazen disregard for laws and regulations in the country. "People go free, daring the law," he lamented, noting that this trend undermines the fabric of society.

The Emir emphasized the need for a strengthened justice system to hold citizens accountable for their actions. "As traditional leaders, we will continue to do our best, but deliberate action is needed to hold citizens accountable for their bad actions for our country to make progress," he said.

The Director-General of the NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, expressed confidence in the ability of traditional rulers to guide their communities toward positive value reorientation. "Traditional institutions are vital in shaping the national character and fostering a sense of shared responsibility," he said.

The collaboration between the NOA and traditional leaders like the Emir of Argungu signifies a united front in the fight for a more just and upright Nigeria. The NOA hopes that by working with respected figures like the Emir, their message of good conduct and civic duty will resonate more deeply across the country.

The Emir's powerful statement serves as a potent reminder that while public enlightenment is essential, it must be coupled with accountability and the consistent application of the rule of law.
