The National Hydro-Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has pledged to focus on transforming the lives of communities in power-producing areas across the country. Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq-Yelwa, the reappointed Managing Director of N-HYPPADEC, made this commitment at the opening of a Consultative Management Meeting of the commission on Wednesday in Birnin Kebbi.
Sadiq-Yelwa stated that his reappointment was not just a personal honor but a call to deepen the commission's impact on the lives of communities in power-producing areas. "The President Bola Tinubu's decision to renew my appointment reflects not only his trust in my personal leadership qualities but, more importantly, his recognition of the collective achievements we recorded during my first tenure," he said. "Therefore, we must never take this confidence for granted."
The Managing Director expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and assured that neither the government nor the people in the affected communities would be disappointed. He noted that the meeting was aimed at receiving briefings from all Directorates, State Offices, and Units of the commission to understand the progress and challenges and chart a new course forward.
Sadiq-Yelwa reflected on the commission's work since its inception, highlighting its capacity to implement people-oriented projects and give voice to neglected communities. "We are not starting afresh. We are building on a strong foundation that we laid together. But now, we must do even more," he declared. "I return with a stronger sense of mission, a deeper understanding of our mandate, and renewed vigor to push this commission forward."
The Managing Director emphasized that the new focus would not only be on executing projects but also on institutional strengthening to make N-HYPPADEC a model of accountability, efficiency, and service delivery. He urged the commission staff to eschew sabotage, rivalry, and unhealthy competition, warning against the destructive culture of rumor-mongering and power struggles that often cripple public institutions.
"I stand for everybody and I belong to no faction. I am the managing director for every directorate, every office, every unit, and every member of staff," Sadiq-Yelwa said. "In N-HYPPADEC, we reject destructive competition and embrace fruitful collaboration."
The Managing Director charged management staff to scale up interventions, deepen impact, and leave behind a legacy of tangible development in the hydro-power producing areas.
