"Kebbi Govt Unveils N9.2 Billion Education Package at NUT NEC Meet"

The Kebbi State Government has unveiled plans to allocate N9.2 billion towards enhancing the educational sector. This announcement was made by Governor Nasir Idris during the opening ceremony of the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) held in Birnin Kebbi on Monday.

 Governor Idris, who previously served as the National President of the NUT and Deputy National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), emphasized his commitment to education, stating, "Consequently, my administration is educationally focused, improvement of the sector remains utmost priority." He highlighted key initiatives undertaken by his administration, saying, "The government has carried out infrastructural development of schools, constructed new ones and maintained training and retraining programme for teachers."

 Breaking down the N9.2 billion allocation, Governor Idris explained, "The sum of N6.5 billion will be utilized on additional rehabilitation of schools' structures and provision of furniture." He added, "2.7 billion goes to procurement of books, teaching and learning materials for teachers, pupils and students." Governor Idris also assured that contracts for these projects would be awarded within 30 days.

 The National President of the NUT, Comrade Titus Ankpa, and the Kebbi Chairman of the Union, Comrade Usman Adamu Isgogo, commended Governor Idris for his pro-education stance, saying, "We thank you for hosting and sponsoring the NUT NEC meeting in Kebbi, we are glad about your improvement of the education sector and the growth of learning in schools." They further noted, "The NUT is proud of you for setting a precedence, transiting from President of the Union to the position of a state governor, it's the first time in the history of the NUT."

 The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Halima Muhammad Bande, conveyed a goodwill message to the gathering, which was delivered by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Abubakar Magaji Nayelwa.
