The Kebbi State chapter of the Military Widows Association (MIWA) has categorically denied a viral online report alleging that its members were subjected to sexual harassment by senior military officials in Abuja before receiving their deceased husbands' entitlements.
The association's state Coordinator, Hajiya Asmau Kanoma, dismissed the report during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday. "I am shocked and astonished by the report circulating in some online media outlets claiming that our members were forced to endure sexual harassment by the Military Higher Command before accessing their deceased husbands' benefits," she stated.
Hajiya Kanoma labeled the report "baseless, fabricated, and completely devoid of truth." She further emphasized, "As leaders and members of this association, we entirely disassociate ourselves from such a report. It was neither issued nor endorsed by our leadership or membership."
The association called on the public to disregard the report entirely, stressing that it does not reflect MIWA's stance in Kebbi State. Hajiya Kanoma clarified that the process of accessing death benefits is contingent upon the deceased officer's unit or formation, and assured that members receive their entitlements without undue hassle. "Our members do not encounter any cumbersome procedures before receiving their rightful benefits," she asserted.
