Alh Abubakar Malam MFR (Shettiman Gwandu), the newly appointed Managing Director of Sokoto Rima River Basin Development Authority, has officially assumed office. In his inaugural speech, he expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Honorable Minister of Water Resources, Engineer Joseph Utsev, and the Executive Governors of Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, and Zamfara States for the confidence reposed in him and the new Executive Directors.
"We are aware of the daunting task ahead, but we are committed to restoring the glory of this organization," Alh Abubakar Malam MFR said. "We will entrench work ethics, promote efficiency, and ensure diligent service delivery through commitment and teamwork."
The Sokoto Rima River Basin Development Authority is mandated to develop and manage surface and ground water resources, provide access to safe and adequate water, and promote socio-economic development in the region. Alh Abubakar Malam MFR reiterated the organization's commitment to its core mandates, including increased food production, poverty reduction, grassroots development, sustainable rural investments, and improved livelihoods.
The authority's key projects include the Goronyo Dam, Bakolori Irrigation Scheme, and Zauro Polder Project, which aim to boost agricultural productivity and provide water resources for domestic and industrial use.
Alh Abubakar Malam MFR assured that the organization would improve staff welfare, entrench discipline, and recognize productivity to motivate workers. He also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve and pledged loyalty and commitment to his developmental agenda.
The Sokoto Rima River Basin Development Authority was established in 1976 to coordinate various projects under the Sokoto Rima and Middle Rima River Basins, covering parts of northwestern Nigeria, including Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kebbi states. With its new management team in place, the organization is poised to make a significant impact in the region.
