The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Nigeria, Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar III, has announced the sighting of the new moon of Shawwal 1446 AH. In a special broadcast to the Muslim Ummah on Saturday, the Sultan declared Sunday, March 30, 2025, as the first day of Shawwal 1446 AH and the day of Eid-el-Fitr.
According to the Sultan, the moon sighting committee received reports of the new moon sighting from traditional Muslim leaders and organizations across the country. "The reports of sighting the new moon were duly verified and authenticated by the Sultanate Council Moon Committee," he explained.
Sultan Sa'ad advised Muslims to put into practice the lessons they learned during the fasting period. He also called on Nigerians to continue living in harmony with one another for the country's socioeconomic development. Additionally, he urged Muslims to continue praying for the country's political leaders at all levels.
As announced, Sunday, March 30, 2025, will be celebrated as Eid-el-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan.
