The Northern Youth Association of Nigeria has strongly condemned the brutal killing of 16 Northern travelers in Uromi, Edo State, during a mob attack. In a statement issued by the group's President, Godiya T. Adams Bogoro, the association described the heinous act as unacceptable and called for a thorough investigation to ensure that justice is served.
"We urge the relevant authorities to take immediate action in apprehending the perpetrators and bringing them to justice," Godiya said. The group also called on the Edo State Government to implement concrete measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
Godyia commended the efforts of the Governor of Edo State, saying, "We have been assured that the Governor of Edo State is taking the matter very seriously and is committed to getting to the root of the incident." He appreciated the governor's commitment to justice and peace, adding, "We would like to put on record that the Governor of Edo State is a man of peace and a great friend of the Arewa people."
The association urged Northerners to remain calm and peaceful despite the provocation, saying, "We urge them not to take the law into their own hands but to allow the relevant authorities to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice." Godiya concluded, "We will continue to monitor the situation and work with the relevant authorities to ensure that justice is served. We also call on all Nigerians to condemn this heinous act and work together to promote peace, unity, and understanding."
