The Catholic Media Practitioners of Nigeria (CAMPAN), Kaduna chapter, in collaboration with Muslim journalists, organized an interfaith breakfast meeting on Friday to foster unity and promote peaceful coexistence among journalists of different faiths.
The event, which brought together Christian and Muslim journalists, was attended by dignitaries including the Archbishop of Kaduna, Most Rev. Matthew Man-Oso Ndagoso, and the Chief Imam of Udawa mosque, Imam Ilyasu Hussain.
Archbishop Ndagoso commended the initiative, stating that the gathering of media practitioners from different faiths was a significant step towards promoting unity and understanding. "It is only when we meet, share, and interact as journalists that we properly carry our role of putting the country together," he said.
The Archbishop also emphasized the importance of fraternity and dialogue, quoting the Pope's message that "our world is in need of fraternity and dialogue." He urged journalists to use their power to bring the country together instead of division.
Imam Ilyasu Hussain, in his remarks, applauded the initiative and prayed for its sustenance. He shared his personal experience of benefiting from close relationships with Christian leaders and colleagues, emphasizing the need for greater ties among Christian and Muslim faithful to achieve true peace.
Pastor Yohanna Buru thanked the Archbishop for the initiative, describing him as a unifier. The Kaduna NUJ Chairman, Mr. Abdulgafar Allelebe, lauded the event and emphasized the need for its sustenance. He lamented the state's past history of religious conflicts but assured that those incidents are now in the past.
The Chairman of Muslim Journalists League, Mallam Jafaru Yakubu, appreciated the invitation to Muslim journalists and called for synergy among journalists and media practitioners. He emphasized the need for respect for both religions and prayed for the program's enhancement annually.
Earlier, the Chairman of CAMPAN, Kaduna Archdiocese, Mr. Nicholas Dekera, explained that the program was conceptualized to strengthen the bond of cooperation and unity between media practitioners of the two major religions.
Veteran journalist, Elder Tajuddeen Ajibade Tijjani, noted that the initiative had found a way out of the challenges to peace, adding that if sustained, it would promote peaceful coexistence in the state and country.
