Kebbi State Government Sponsors Mass Wedding for 300 Couples

In a move aimed at promoting social welfare and supporting young couples, the Kebbi State government has sponsored a mass wedding ceremony for 300 couples. The event, which took place in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday, was organized by the governor's wife, Hajiya Nafisa Nasir Idris, under her pet project, NANAS Foundation.

The ceremony was presided over by Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, who commended his wife for organizing the event. "We will hold an even broader mass wedding ceremony next year," he announced.

Prior to the ceremony, the couples underwent genotype tests and medical examinations to ensure they were compatible and healthy. The Emir of Gwandu, represented by the Magajin Garin Gwandu, Alhaji Aminullahi Umar, served as the guardian to the brides, while the National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, represented the grooms.

Each couple received a set of room furniture, household utensils, and a cash gift of N20,000 from the governor's wife. Additional donations were made by other dignitaries, including the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Sen. Atiku Bagudu, who gave each couple N50,000.

Islamic clerics and scholars delivered sermons, admonishing the couples to be persevering, loving, loyal, and trustworthy. They emphasized the importance of upholding the obligations of marriage and discharging their duties with sincerity.

The mass wedding ceremony was seen as a significant effort by the Kebbi State government to promote social welfare and support young couples in starting their new lives together.
