The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders in the Northeast have vowed to prevent detractors from taking over the party. Chairman of the PDP Governors' Forum, Bala Mohammed, made this declaration at the PDP North East Zonal Caucus Delegates Meeting held at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Bauchi.
"We will not allow detractors to lead our party," Governor Mohammed emphasized. "We are working day and night to ensure that we don't bring shame to the party. We are bringing inclusive projects and programs to have a direct bearing on the aspirations of our people."
The meeting, which included the PDP acting national chairman, three governors from the zone (Bauchi, Adamawa, and Taraba), and other stakeholders, aimed to boost unity and focus within the party. Governor Mohammed observed that the Northeast zone is unique in its lack of division and rancor, saying, "This is the only Zone that does not have so much division and rancor... We are always known for unity, for coming out strong."
The chairman also announced plans to renovate the Bauchi zonal office and hold a party congress to promote reconciliation and minimize rancor. National Acting Chairman Amb. Iliya Umar Damagum reaffirmed the party's commitment to resilience, urging leaders and members to put aside narrow interests and work towards unity.
Zonal Chairman Reverend Emmanuel Nova criticized the federal government's economic policies, calling for reforms to alleviate hardships faced by Nigerians. "There is too much anger... The economic policy is not working. We must run this country in trust and for all of us," Nova emphasized.
The meeting underscored the importance of cohesion and unity within the party, particularly in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
