The launch of the Emblem Appeal Fund in Kebbi State on Tuesday was marked by an outpouring of generosity, with donations totaling over N85 million. The state government led the way with a donation of N50 million, while Governor Nasir Idris personally donated N10 million on behalf of himself, his family, and the Kauran Gwandu Foundation.
Other notable donors included the Security Agencies, who combined to give N3 million; Deputy Governor Sen. Umar Abubakar Tafida, who donated N2 million; and the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru, who gave N1 million. The Finance Commissioner, Abubakar Chika, donated N5 million on behalf of his colleagues, while the ALGON Chairman, Muhammad Dahiru Nayaya Ambursa, gave N4.2 million on behalf of the 21 Local Government Councils.
Governor Nasir Idris emphasized the importance of redeeming pledges immediately, saying, "Donors must not look at the ex-servicemen as beggars, they are principal partners in nation building.They have suffered for us, without them we would not be here." He also directed the Commissioner for Lands and Housing to expedite land acquisition for the Legion in Argungu, Yauri, and Zuru within one week.
The Chairman of the Kebbi Chapter of the Nigerian Legion, Rtd. Sergeant Garba Hassan Suru, expressed gratitude to Governor Nasir Idris for his continued support, revealing that the total number of Legionneers and widows of fallen heroes in Kebbi State numbers in the thousands. Sgt. Suru also decorated the Governor, Deputy Governor, and Speaker of the Assembly with the Appeal Emblem.
