The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) has joined Nigerians in commemorating Armed Forces Remembrance Day, paying tribute to the gallant men and women who sacrificed their lives for Nigeria's peace, unity, and sovereignty.
In a statement signed by CISLAC's Executive Director, Comrade Auwal Ibrahim Musa (Rafsanjani), the Centre called on the government and stakeholders to demonstrate a lasting commitment to honoring the sacrifices of these heroes. This includes ensuring timely payment of entitlements to their families and implementing sustainable support structures for their dependents.
Comrade Musa emphasized that the families of fallen heroes deserve tangible support and recognition, noting that it is not only a national duty but a moral imperative to ensure these families are cared for with dignity and respect.
CISLAC urged the government to adopt a proactive approach in addressing the welfare of families of fallen heroes, highlighting key actions such as:
-Timely Payment of Entitlements: Ensuring that benefits and pensions are paid promptly to families of deceased service members.
- Empowerment Initiatives for Widows: Implementing comprehensive programs to equip widows with skills and resources for self-reliance.
- Educational Support for Children: Providing scholarships and educational support programs to ensure children of fallen heroes have access to quality education.
By adopting a proactive approach, the government can reduce risks, be more cost-efficient, and have greater control over outcomes, ultimately leading to better support for the families of fallen heroes.
Comrade Musa concluded that Armed Forces Remembrance Day is a call to action to uphold the legacy of fallen heroes by supporting their loved ones. CISLAC remains committed to advocating for policies ensuring the welfare of those who have sacrificed for Nigeria's unity and security.
