Kebbi Government Settles CAN's N18 Million Debt

The Kebbi State government has cleared an N18 million debt owed by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to the National Christian Pilgrims Commission. This gesture was initiated by Governor Nasir Idris following an appeal by CAN Chairman, Rev. Dr. Ayuba Kanta, during a visit to the Government House in Birnin Kebbi.

The debt settlement was ordered by Governor Kauran Gwandu, who also directed the Secretary to the State Government to settle the debt immediately. Additionally, the governor donated N30 million to CAN for its members' welfare and pledged funds to complete CAN's Secretariat in Birnin Kebbi.

Governor Idris emphasized his administration's commitment to inclusivity, stating, "My administration is all-encompassing, we will give everyone, section, and creed, a sense of belonging." He also announced plans to assist Christians on pilgrimage to Jerusalem and provide welfare packages during festivals like Christmas and Easter.

During the event, Governor Idris revealed that the Federal Government had revoked the contract for the construction of the KoKo Road due to the contractor's incompetence. The Kebbi State Government has received approval to rebuild the road and will commence work once documentation is finalized.

Rev. Kanta expressed gratitude to Governor Idris for prioritizing governance and appointing Christian representatives to key positions. He praised the governor's efforts to uplift the living standards of Kebbi residents and requested additional support for Christian communities.
