Birnin Kebbi, Nigeria–June 12, 2026 (Series News Online)–The National Orientation Agency, NOA, Kebbi State Directorate, has called on citizens to prioritize peace, embrace developmental politics, and support government efforts to strengthen democratic institutions as Nigeria marks Democracy Day.
In an official statement released on Friday to journalists in Birnin Kebbi, the Director of NOA Kebbi State, Malam Muhammad Nasir Karofi, emphasized that sustainable growth can only thrive in an atmosphere of tranquility. The director urged residents of the “Land of Equity” to remain resilient and committed to the core values of civil rule.
The agency addressed the role of youth and women in the political space, advocating a shift from divisive practices to issue-based engagement.
“Political engagements must be driven by rigorous policy debates and community growth rather than bitterness or personal rancor,” the Director said.
The director also urged young people and women to resist being used for violence.
“The youth and women must resist being used as instruments for violence or retaliatory politics,” the statement read.
While imploring the Kebbi State Government to expedite the actualization of foreign partnerships secured during Governor Idris’s overseas trips, the director expressed optimism that the agreements would soon deliver tangible benefits to citizens. The statement highlighted several investments recently outlined by the Kebbi Investment Promotion Agency, KIPA.
The director cited the $4.10 billion in global investment commitments secured at the maiden Kebbi Investors Forum, KIF 2026, covering mining, manufacturing, transport, and logistics.
“The $4.10 billion global investment commitments secured at the landmark maiden Kebbi Investors Forum, KIF 2026, span critical sectors including mining, manufacturing, transport, and logistics infrastructure,” the Director noted.
On the delivery of dividends from foreign partnerships, the director said citizens expect to see direct impact in job creation and service delivery. He noted that the agreements negotiated during Governor Idris’s overseas engagements were designed to translate into factories, farms, and power projects within Kebbi.
“The dividends of these foreign partnerships must be felt in the lives of ordinary Kebbi citizens through employment opportunities, affordable energy, and improved infrastructure,” the Director said.
The director added that the renewable energy and electric vehicle hub would reduce power challenges and create skilled jobs for youth.
“Renewable Energy and EV Mobility Hub: Strategic partnerships to establish solar installations and a dedicated assembly plant for electric vehicles and motorcycles within the state, alongside a regional electricity supply synergy with six other North-West states,” the Director said.
On industrialization, the director referenced the proposed foreign-partnered cement company and agro-allied projects as key drivers of economic diversification.
“The proposed foreign-partnered cement company is poised to industrialize the state’s manufacturing landscape and provide thousands of direct and indirect jobs,” the Director said.
“The Agricultural and Agro-Allied Partnerships: Fully operationalizing the Framework for Responsible and Inclusive Land-Intensive Agriculture, FRILIA, alongside federal and international institutions to sustain Kebbi’s position as Nigeria’s premier agricultural hub,” the Director added.
The director further highlighted the dry port project as critical for trade and revenue generation.
“The Dry Port Project: Moving the development phase forward rapidly to leverage Kebbi’s position as a gateway to the West African market,” the Director stated.
On governance priorities, the director stressed that political choices should center on citizens’ welfare.
“Ambitions and choices should strictly center on the genuine advancement of the socio-economic welfare of the state,” the Director said.
NOA Kebbi commended both federal and state leadership for bold reforms.
“The Agency praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for initiating bold economic reforms that are steering the country back to the path of prosperity,” the Director said.
“Similarly, the Director lauded the Executive Governor of Kebbi State, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, for his transformative infrastructure drive, workers’ welfare packages, and his unwavering dedication to the people of Kebbi,” the Director stated.
The agency said citizens are hopeful that Governor Idris will ensure the timely actualization of these agreements.
“The public remains highly hopeful that these partnerships will reach full actualization under Governor Idris’s visionary administration,” the Director said.
The director noted that successful execution would generate employment and boost internally generated revenue.
“The successful execution of these initiatives will be a game-changer, generating massive employment opportunities for our teeming youth and women, while significantly boosting the state’s Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, to fund further development,” the Director said.
Concluding the Democracy Day message, the director reminded citizens that democracy requires mutual responsibility.
“Democracy is a partnership between the government and the governed. I call on all residents to remain law-abiding, peaceful, and tax-compliant to ensure that the dividends of democracy reach every corner of Kebbi State,” the Director said.
