Birnin Kebbi, Nigeria — April 30, 2026(Series News Online)- Governor Nasir Idris has set up a consensus committee to harmonize aspirants who purchased All Progressives Congress nomination forms for the 2027 general elections in Kebbi State.
The governor announced the committee’s formation on Thursday in Birnin Kebbi while inaugurating its members. He said the move was to ensure consensus building and peace within the party ahead of the polls.
The committee is mandated to engage APC aspirants for senatorial, House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly seats across the 21 local government areas of the state.
Governor Idris explained that the decision followed the signing of new electoral laws by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu months ago, which altered the pattern of conducting party primaries to allow either consensus or direct primaries.
“Kebbi State is adopting the consensus method because it is easier and more peaceful for our party as well as for our people,” the governor said.
“I urge the committee to ensure they conduct the mandate with the fear of God as well as ensure equal justice to each of the contestants who expressed interest and purchased nomination forms,” Governor Idris stated.
He charged the committee to discharge its mandate with fairness and integrity, adding that the assignment takes effect immediately.
“The committee’s mandate starts from today with immediate effect. I wish them successful deliberations,” he said.
Responding, the Chairman of the Committee and Ambassador-designate, Alhaji Saidu Usman Dakingari, pledged to carry out the assignment diligently.
“With the members of the committee who are capable hands, we will discharge our mandate with the fear of God as well as with diligence, and we will do the needful, God willing,” Dakingari said.
The committee members are: Alhaji Saidu Usman Dakingari as chairman, Abubakar Malam, MD Sokoto Rima River Basin; Abubakar Muhammad Birnin Kebbi; Retired Justice Suleiman Muhammad Ambursa; Suleiman Muhammad Argungu; Alhaji Umar Idris Buro; Barrister Attahiru Maccido; Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida, SSG; and Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad Kana Zuru, APC party chairman.
